Sometimes, It Feels Like We Are Ants Under a Microscope

When you are a woman,

there’s always a reason to feel guilty.

As if simply being ourselves

requires some sort of rule book.

Even the most resilient women get shamed

for behaving “disgracefully,”

for taking back power that should have always belonged to them.

To feel guilty for having desires

or for having strong opinions.

To feel guilty

for loving ourselves

or for hating ourselves.

To feel guilty

for looking a certain way.

To feel guilty

for choosing to embrace our bodies

in whatever way we wish.

To feel guilty

for not being there enough,

or for being there too much.

The list never ends.

I don’t know about you,

but I am so tired of feeling guilty

for just wanting to be me.
