Resolutions

The problem with resolutions

is that we always seem to break them

way before we ever expect to.

It’s the pressure that we put on ourselves

to be something that we’re not,

to stop a habit that we think makes us less of a person,

when really it’s just a habit that makes us the person that we are.

We’ll stop what we’re doing when we’re ready,

when something happens that makes us wake up and say,

“What the hell am I doing?”

not when we’re given some day in time that tells us we need to make a change.

We can’t force ourselves to follow a self-made rule.

We have to really want to,

and the problem with rules

is that everyone wants to break them.
