More

We talked about us like we were talking about business,

like we were talking about the morning news,

like we were talking about what we were going to eat for dinner.

There was no screaming,

no shoving,

no begging.

I didn’t cry when you left.

I just felt relieved.

I took the sheets off my bed

and put them in the wash.

I took a hot shower

so that the only smell left on my body was from my cocoa butter soap.

And in the silence of the steam,

I thought to myself how fine I felt about the whole thing.

Because now,

I can have more.
